A Special Message from The Owner of Old Mill Builders, Jeff Yenter
Since this is our twentieth year in business, I would like to devote this blog to something that is near and dear to my heart: my connection with my clients, and their homes.
To some, building is just a job.
But to me, it’s a calling. I’ve been doing it since I was young. And I take great pride in building not just houses, but places where people can truly be themselves. A place that looks and feels just the way they dreamed. More than just a shelter. A place that provides a sense of security; where we can grow, and be free, from the daily stresses of modern life.
Our homes should provide this refuge. The minute you walk in the door, there should be a sense of relief and a loosening of defences. And the design and construction should be a part of that. The overall house should express who we are at our core, and be an inspiration for who we want to be.
It should also be a vessel for your precious memories.
We all have memories of places or times – a memorable trip as a child, summers spent with relatives, or a significant challenge that was faced and overcome. And we want you to feel comfortable building new ones in a warm, nurturing environment, in a house that feels like you, that is connected to you and your inner self.
Maybe you’re still searching for that perfect place, to put down roots, or to start a new chapter in your life. Let’s imagine your dream home or retreat – is it easy to reach, with a fabulous view of a mountain, lake or ocean? Or is it far off the beaten path, perhaps even on a mountain top? Wherever it is, does it truly reflect who you are?
When you’re ready to realize that vision, you’ll want a team that can support you on your journey. It’s vital to work with professionals that understand buildings and people, that have patience, and are trustworthy.
Every person is unique.
And to me, each new project is a chance for exploration. It’s an opportunity to share some of life’s experiences, where we can explore the diversity of culture, history, and architecture. Each new assignment is a chance for personal growth and it’s also a chance to go beyond the technical aspects of building, to create something that has a connection to my clients, and to the land that it sits on.
To be successful in this process, I feel that it’s important to listen, advise, and ultimately collaborate, with each new client. I want to personalize each house that we build.
There are many builders that can deliver a nice home, but for a house to inspire, it’s essential to have that connection with the client, the land, and the community. And to do this, it takes a lot of attention, respect, and care. Something that not all builders do. But with Old Mill Builders, we take the time to really listen to our clients, to get to know them as people, not just projects.
And I look forward to making new connections throughout the coming years…
